Curves is the gym franchise geared towards women who want to get in shape. With thousands of locations in more than 85 countries, Curves consists of strength training, cardio and stretching with quick 30-minute circuits, three times a week.
Just like any fitness franchise, Curves requires its members to sign a contract to become a member. If the contract is canceled, cancellation fees can potentially follow. Essentially: opting out of a contract is not a painless process. In fact, on ConsumerAffairs.com had quite a few board participants complaining.

Steps to Cancel:
- Review your Curves membership contract and find out what date you originally signed on to become a member.
- Draft a letter to the Curves location manager stating your desire to cancel your account. The letter should be addressed to your home gym, include a reason for canceling your membership, your date of membership activation, and your full name associated with the account. Sign and date the letter.
- Make an appointment with a Curves manager at your home gym.
- Hand the manager your cancellation letter. It's possible that the manager will attempt to persuade you to stay, but if you stand firm, eventually your wishes should be accepted.
- Sign a cancellation contract. Most Curves locations will have a cancellation contract for you to sign.
- Expect to pay anywhere from $10 to $50 in cancellation fees. Depending on the time of month that you cancel, you may have to pay for an additional month.
- Give at least 30 days notice to give the location time to process the cancellation and stop any bank account drafts.
Expert Tip:
- Curves is a franchise, which means each location is run by different owners. Because of this, each location may have differing cancellation policies. Before you cancel, speak to the Curves manager at your home gym face-to-face to ensure that you are following the right process.
