Cancel Washington Post

As the capitol’s oldest and largest publication to date, the Washington Post has been informing the world of the latest goings on since 1877. The Washington Post is rich with political and sports-related news, world events, local Washington D.C. happenings, plus entertainment and lifestyle content.

Recently subscriptions to the Washington Post have declined. Why? Because many readers can find their news on WashingtonPost.com without having to pay a monthly fee to get a hard-copy of the newspaper.

If you do want to cancel your Washington Post subscription, here are the steps to do so:

What You’ll Need:

  • Your Washington Post account number
  • Personal information (Name, address, phone number, Social Security Number)
  • Billing information associated with your subscription
  • Date you signed your free membership trial
  • Access to a phone

Steps to Cancel:

  1. Gather the information listed above.
  2. Call the Washington Post Customer Care Center at 202-334-6100.
  3. Follow the prompts and select “4” to cancel your account.
  4. You will be connected with a representative. State your personal information to confirm your identity. The representative may ask a series of questions to gather enough information to pull up your account.
  5. State your desire to cancel your Washington Post. Give a reason why, and be firm if necessary.
  6. Ask the representative about any cancellation fees or balance you may owe, and pay over the phone if possible.
  7. Jot down the representative’s name for your records. Ask for a confirmation email or letter so you have a hard copy for your records in case you run into issues down the line.

I just canceled my subscription with Washington post over the phone, and it was a breeze. The entire call, including going through their automated system, took 3 minutes. The person on the other end was very friendly, and while she did make me several offers to convince me to keep my subscription, she didn't give me any resistance when I declined.
